Testifying in Zahid's corruption trial at the High Court yesterday, Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin said he wrote a cheque for RM2 million to Lewis & Co on Nov 25, 2016.

Mohamad Nasaee, 58, happened to be former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's younger brother.

The bank officers who testified today were: Mar Sai Chin from Public Bank; Lina Zailan, Au Lai Bin, Mohd Zulkfarnain Ab Latiff, Suzaliza Kamari, Sharifah Shifah Syed Zainol and Yusri Md Kasri – all from Maybank; CIMB's Lau Ai Mai, RHB Bank's branch manager G Jayachantran and Hong Leong Bank’s Wong Shiau Phing who were the 44th to 53rd prosecution witnesses in the trial.

The group members are seeking an injunction to maintain the status quo with regard to their positions in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) until the disposal of a suit on the matter.

A total of 53 prosecution witnesses and seven defence witnesses, including the six accused, had been called to testify in the trial.

The 61-page statement of claim was filed in the High Court this afternoon through Messrs Haniff Khatri.

Former Finance Ministry secretary Datuk Maliami Hamad had testified that such hastiness “was not normal practice and had not happened before”, ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V Sithambaram said during final submissions in the SRC trial of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Lawyer Harvinderjit Singh took one and a half hours to conclude the submissions before the prosecution, saying his client had a firm belief the money he spent was from donations as the funds had come into his accounts over a period of a few years.

This follows the party organising secretary not possessing any executive power to make the arbitrary decision or deal personally with matters relating to the party constitution.
