PM says CEP won’t be dissolved just yet – report

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 16): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pictured) said today the quasi-official Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) won’t be dissolved just yet, according to a Malay Mail report today.

“CEP won’t be dissolved. They (Rumours) think it came to an end, but I never said so. I still need their services; until they solve all the problems.

"I myself can’t do all the work,” he said in the report.

The Malay Mail also reported yesterday that Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) director Cynthia Gabriel said the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) investigative committee is expected to be dissolved along with the CEP this coming Saturday (Aug 18).

“The 1MDB investigation committee is expected to be dissolved this coming Saturday along with the the CEP as the PH government reach 100 days in power,” she said.

The CEP’s mandate is expected to end after 100 days.

Gabriel is part of the 1MDB investigation committee established under the CEP.

The 1MDB committee is led by former attorney-general Abu Talib Othman.

Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said last month that it is Dr Mahathir’s “prerogative whether the advisory council would extend its services beyond the stipulated time”, reported the English daily.
