KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 16): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) ordered two development projects in Kampung Segambut Dalam to immediately suspend operations after a flood in the area on Monday, the Star reported today.
The report quoted Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan saying the developers were building houses in the area and debris had clogged up the drains.
“DBKL will also be studying the drainage and clear up any obstructions as there are illegal structures built over the drains,” he said when contacted.
The mayor said the nearby Sungai Toba would be deepened to accommodate the increase in water volume as a way to mitigate flooding.
Besides Kampung Segambut Dalam, areas affected by flash floods were Kampung Sungai Penchala and an area between Central Market and Brickfields.
There was also a landslide at the Kemas Training Institute in Jalan Syed Putra following the collapse of a 10m-long retaining wall.
