PETALING JAYA (Oct 19): Water pollution in Sungai Selangor has caused four water treatment plants to stop operation, it’s expected the water supply to 1,292 areas in Klang Valley will be affected, according to Air Selangor.

In its statement issued this morning at 7.30am, the authority detected contamination of the raw water resource at 2am this morning, thus the water treatment plant phase 1, phase 2, phase 3 and Rantau Panjang will be shut down.

“The shut down is for carrying out the ‘flushing’ activity to reduce the pollutants of the river, however, until 6.30am this morning, the pollution level of the river remained high at 1 TON (threshold odour number),” said the statement.

As a result of the shutdown, a total of 1.19 million of accounts in 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling district, Klang and Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat will be experiencing water supply disruption.
