PETALING JAYA (June 1): The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) has urged the government to consider the waiver of levy fee for foreign workers renewing their work permits and extension of permit approval for those who are stuck because they have been unable to enter Malaysia during the lockdown, as well as for those who will be overstaying due to the imposed movement restriction.

MBAM, in a media statement today, urged the Immigration Department of Malaysia to consider the waiver of fees for special passes due to overstaying during the lockdown period.

The association appealed to the government to defer introducing any other new policies that will further increase the cost of doing business during this trying period.

Meanwhile, MBAM also lauded the government’s latest announcement of the PEMERKASA+ aid package on May 31, 2021 to assist the people and businesses in facing the difficult times brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and the full movement control order (FMCO).

Helpful measures include the extension of the Temporary Measures for Reducing the Impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) or Act 829 to Dec 31 this year, and the implementation of small projects with an allocation of more than RM2 billion to be spent utilising class G1 to G4 contractors for the repair of infrastructure and public facilities.

“This is good news to the construction industry and we are looking forward to the improvement on Act 829,” said the association.
