Car breakdown during MCO?

KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): Seven days into the nationwide Movement Control Order effective March 18 to 31 to contain COVID-19, and many people are familiarising themselves with the online purchase of groceries and food, among others.

But what if one experiences a car breakdown, now that the roads are quite empty?

Fret not, emergency breakdown services can also be found online.

For instance, the ‘’ mobile application (app) provides car battery delivery and installation services, while the ‘Carput’ app offers towing, tyre change, fuel delivery and battery services.

By installing the app on smartphones, customers will be able to book their batteries by filling an online form which includes the breakdown location and the vehicle make and model.

Customers are able to select batteries according to price and warranty, before a nearby agent is assigned to arrive within 45 minutes.

An agent known as Fahmi, said team members are based at their respective homes, and are assigned to emergencies in areas located nearby.

“My area is in the vicinity of Keramat, Wangsa Maju and Melawati. I have also been given a letter authorising my movement,” he said.

Normal time service prices have been retained for the entire duration of the Movement Control Order. This means that a customer only needs to pay for the price of a battery, while the inspection and installation are free-of-charge, he added.

Meanwhile, checks at a few workshops found that mechanics left their contact numbers behind for those who need help during emergencies.

On Carput’s social media sites, car owners are reminded to turn on their car engines for about 15 to 20 minutes every seven days particularly during the current Movement Control Order period, to avoid problems.
