KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 28): Malaysia's new Covid-19 cases rose to 10 today — of which eight were imported and two were local transmissions — bringing the total positive cases detected so far to 9,306, according to the Ministry of Health.

Active cases dropped to 151 from 177 reported yesterday, as 36 more Covid-19 patients recovered. This raised total recoveries to 9,030, representing a recovery rate of 97%.

Death toll from the coronavirus in the country, meanwhile, stayed at 125, as no new fatalities were recorded, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

As for the eight imported cases who contracted the virus abroad, one case involved a Malaysian while the remaining seven were foreigners.

Seven of the imported cases were those who travelled from India (five detected in Kuala Lumpur and two in Selangor), while one travelled from the Philippines (detected in Sarawak).

As for the two local transmissions, one was a local asymptomatic patient in Kedah, while the other was an illegal immigrant at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Centre.

Commenting on imported infections, Noor Hisham said a total of 904 cases had been detected as at yesterday, from among 106,793 travellers who arrived in Malaysia.

From the 904 positive cases detected, he said the three highest infections were found among those who had travelled from Indonesia (295 cases), Egypt (93 cases), and Singapore (70 cases).
