KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 23): More than 55% of the adult population in Malaysia have been fully vaccinated as of yesterday (Aug 22), amounting to 13.02 million individuals, according to the latest updates on Twitter today by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV).

Meanwhile, the data, which was cited from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), showed that Malaysia had as of yesterday administered at least one dose of vaccine to 18.26 million people, amounting to 55.9% of total population. On Aug 21, the number stood at 18.12 million, or 55.5% of total population.

It is worth noting that the 18.26 million, or 55.9% of total population, receiving at least one dose of vaccine include those who had been fully vaccinated.

Nonetheless, Malaysia’s daily administered Covid-19 vaccine doses slipped to 441,100 on Aug 22 from 469,690 a day earlier.

Of the 441,100 vaccine doses administered yesterday, the daily figure comprised 137,555 first-dose recipients and 303,545 second-dose recipients.

All in all, the cumulative number of doses administered hit above 30 million, at 31.28 million on Aug 22.

Based on the government’s target of having 80% of the population fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to achieve herd immunity, the country will need to have about 26 million people completing their two-dose vaccination.

However, the total number of people registered for vaccination in the country has yet to hit 26 million people. The most recent data from JKJAV showed that only 20.99 million people have registered for it.

Yesterday, Malaysia’s new Covid-19 infections fell to 19,807 cases from 22,262 a day earlier, bringing the total number of cases to date to 1.56 million, according to the Health Ministry.

Notably, this is the second day running that the country saw a declining trend in new infections.

The number of Covid-19 fatalities reported amounted to 232 cases, raising the total death toll in the nation to 14,168.
