KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 21,611 of 29,562 People's Housing Programme (PPR) units of the National Economic Action Council currently managed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are available for sale to existing tenants, the Dewan Rakyat was told Tuesday, April 20.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the remaining 7,951 units were not available for sale at the moment as 2,056 were empty, 4,740 had yet to be handed over by the Housing and Local Government Ministry to the DBKL and 1,155 occupied by transient squatters who were not eligible for the offer.

He said that of the 21,611 tenants who had been offered the purchase, only 14,450 had expressed interests in doing so.

"The selection committee has identified 10,159 tenants who qualified for the offer while 4,013 others also qualified but on conditional basis as they have rental arrears of over three months," he said.

A total of 278 applicants were still waiting for approval, he said in his written reply to Fong Kui Lun (DAP-Bukit Bintang). -- Bernama
