PETALING JAYA: AEON Co (M) Bhd invested up to RM55 million to renovate its Jusco Bandar Utama store, which took over a year to complete.

Managing director Nur Qamrina Chew said AEON upgrades its stores every few years, but recently all its retail locations have been undergoing aggressive remodelling in line with the company’s new image.

“We are trying to drive the stores towards rapid modernisation,” she told reporters at the store’s reopening ceremony on Sunday.

AEON, meanwhile, has teamed up with Duskin Hong Kong Co Ltd to launch a new brand of doughnut — Mister Donut — at the shops or shopping malls which AEON owns or operates in Malaysia. Its first outlet opened yesterday at Jusco Bandar Utama.

Duskin Hong Kong is a subsidiary and authorised master franchisee of Duskin Co Ltd Japan.

Chew said the company aims to become a market leader in the doughnut industry.

“We target to open not fewer than 100 Mister Donut outlets in Malaysia within 10 years with an investment of RM500,000 for each store,” she said.

AEON also plans to open new stores in Rawang, Selangor, by year-end and in Ipoh by the second quarter of next year, she said, adding that the company has also acquired two pieces of land in Sungai Petani, Kedah, and Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
