NEW YORK: Worldwide, economies are reportedly on the mend, with some said to be turning around more convincingly than the rest. The subprime property debacle in the US has knocked values and yields off real estate across the globe. Of late, however, a return in confidence in the property sector has been felt. In Malaysia, queues for selective property launches have been noted although it must be pointed out that the strong market response is not felt across the board.

In any property investment, location is key; more so with the geomancy or Feng Shui enthusiast; which explains in part why an address is more compelling than another.

So, why is New York City the most populated city in the US? Look at the unique location of the city, which is on a tongue-shaped land. There are no other cities like New York City. The forces moving downward from the North-Western sector all the way to the tip of the tongue will bounce back, forming a pool of homogenous energy which benefits the surrounding area. With bridges connected to West New York and Long Island City means the city is getting more support from these two bigger land masses. New York City will do well as long as the bridges are there -- it will become even better if there are more bridges. There are similar examples in other parts of the world like Hong Kong Island, Singapore and Penang Island.

There are times when Feng Shui is not the only factor to affect the price of property. It also depends on economics and this is especially so for New York City, one of the world’s financial hubs. Remember the Chinese saying that there are opportunities in dangerous times? This is therefore a good time to ride on it and make investments in New York City and the surrounding areas such as Weehawken and Newport of West New York, Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn Heights and McCarren Park of Long Island City. Why these areas?  They are located in areas where tunnels or bridges that serve New York City begin -- they get the living forces that are moving back and forth.
