ABU DHABI: The world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa clinched the “Mixed Use Project” award at the Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in the Middle East and North Africa, held on April 18 here.

The 828m tall structure forms part of Dubai-based developer Emaar Properties’ 2 sq km flagship project Downtown Dubai. The project consists of commercial, residential, retail and leisure developments.

“Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai have given the world of real estate a new point of reference for modern living and are clear and worthy winners of this prestigious award,” said Chris Speller, group director of Cityscape in a press release on Cityscape Abu Dhabi’s website.

Emaar also secured the the “Architecture, Best Urban Design and Master Planning” award for its Framework plan for the Eastern Harbour in Alexandria, Egypt.

Aldar Properties, one of Abu Dhabi’s major developers took home two awards for its US$36 billion (RM115.87 billion) development, Yas Island. Aldar won “Commercial, Office, Retail Built” for Yas Hotel (pictured) and “Commercial, Office, Retail Future” for Yas Island Development, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

The Cityscape Awards for Real Estate in the Middle East and North Africa was held in conjunction with Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2010.

Cityscape Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s largest international business-to-business real estate investment & development conference and exhibition is being held from April 18 to 21 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
