IPOH: Contractors who do not have the Sirim and ISO certifications will not be considered for contracts to build playgrounds here, Ipoh Mayor Datuk Bandar Datuk Roshidi Hashim said.

He said the measure was taken to ensure safety of playgrounds.

"Ipoh City Council is concerned with the safety of children and we take proactive measures in finding contractors who have wide experience apart from having Sirim and ISO certifications as conditions before they are awarded the contracts," he told reporters here on Monday, Jan 31.

Roshidi said Ipoh City Council allocated RM1 million each year to provide children playground facilities in the city.

He also said Ipoh city wanted to be the pioneer among the local councils in the state in providing quality playgrounds.

In another development, Roshidi said the city council also planned to upgrade all bus stops to provide better safety and comfort to the public. — Bernama
