PENANG: Datuk Keramat state assemblyman Jagdeep Singh Deo from DAP on May 4, expressed concern over financial implications that the state may face, to build the proposed Penang International Convention Centre (PICC).

Jagdeep said building the PICC may have financial implications to the state as the cost of building the PICC would be borne by the local council.

"I hope the project will not have any financial implication on the state's finance. Since we have had a positive impact on the financial status of the state, this project should not damage that," he said during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.

The proposed building of PICC at a cost of RM50 million, was deemed a waste of funds by many, since there were hotels in the state with such facilities. -- Bernama
