KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): The Expo for Property, Investing and Crowdfunding (Epic) aims to highlight the importance of consumer investment plans as well as the impact of crowdfunding as an alternative financial platform.

Organised by CoAssets, Southeast Asia’s first listed crowdfunding platform, the event at the JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur started today (Oct 24) and will end tomorrow.

“Crowdfunding is about seeking a crowd and encouraging them to invest in a product,” Propellar CrowdPlus Sdn Bhd’s COO Bryan Chung said, during his speech at the expo today.

As a relatively new field in Southeast Asia, crowdfunding involves raising funds from a large group of people through the Internet for specific projects, which include startup businesses or investments in other developments.

Several talks from noted speakers such as Eureeca’s co-founder and managing director Sam Quawasmi, CEO and co-founder of CoAssets Getty Goh and Hatten Group Sdn Bhd’s property division’s head of marketing and sales Cassandra Tio are among the list of events lined up over the weekend, in addition to a lucky draw.

One of the speakers was The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd and The Edge Property Sdn Bhd managing director Au Foong Yee. She spoke about how consumers must have the right information in order to make correct decisions on what investments they can dabble into.

“From the perspective of a consumer, they should be able to make informed decisions through data and analytics of certain projects [which can be found in theedgeproperty.com portal],” she said.

The two-day expo also hosts 22 booths by 19 exhibitors such as Credo Investments Pte Ltd, Andaman Group and I Transcend. The Edge Property Sdn Bhd is one of the official media partners of the event.
