KUALA LUMPUR: The GreenBuild Asia 2011 will be a timely event for the local construction industry to attract foreign investments, especially in green building, says the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
"As the building construction sector will be the key growth driver under the 10th Malaysia Plan (2011-2015) with development expenditure by the government expected to be RM230 billion, the staging of GreenBuild Asia 2011 is timely," said CIDB Chief Executive Datuk Hamzah Hasan.
He said this during a press conference after making an announcement on the GreenBuild Asia 2011, here on Tuesday, Aug 10. The event will held in conjunction with the International Construction Week.
Hosted by CIDB and organised by AMB Exhibitions Sdn Bhd, GreenBuild 2011 will be held from November 22-24, 2011 to promote the concept and adoption of sustainable building, construction and design.
Themed "Green Solutions for Sustainable Building, Design and Construction", the event will position Malaysia as a centre of excellence for green building in the region.
It will showcase over 500 booths covering green properties, designs, building materials, construction equipment and technology, renewable energy and energy efficiency in buildings.
Hamzah said CIDB is currently undertaking programmes to increase awareness of green construction practices in order to meet foreign investors' demand for green homes and offices.
He said CIDB will launch a marketing tool, eco-labelling, by end of this year to encourage use and demand for environmentally preferable building products and construction method and techniques.
Hamzah said Malaysia was considered a choice for green investment due to its rich biodiversity, adding that investors from Singapore, Australia, Middle East and China were looking at the potential. -- Bernama
