KUALA LUMPUR: GTower has overcome a stringent international test to become the first completed Green Mark Gold Non-Residential Building in Malaysia as certified by Singapore’s Building & Construction Authority (BCA).

This full certification comes on the back of GTower being the first building in Malaysia to be awarded the provisional Green Mark Gold status in 2008.

“GTower’s New Working Concept is a pioneer in the real estate industry, changing the way buildings are being designed, constructed and operated in Malaysia by harnessing the latest technologies and innovations to build Green and Smart,” said GTower Executive Director Colin Ng.

“GTower worked very closely with G-Energy, our energy and green design consultants to realise the vision of an internationally-rated green/low-energy modern building for the 21st century,” Ng said.

Through the adoption of the latest Green Building Technologies to achieve a more sustainable, low-energy and healthy environment, GTower boasts a 25% energy reduction compared with other buildings of similar size and location.

Ng said the Green Mark Gold Award is valid for three years with future renewal dependent on GTower continuously maintaining its unique green ecosystems.

The BCA Green Mark scheme is a Singapore initiative started in 2005 to promote sustainability in the built environment and raise environmental awareness amongst developers.

“The BCA Green Mark scheme, a green building rating tool tailored for the Tropics, evaluates the building for its environmental impact and performance, and helps set high but achievable green KPIs in the real estate market,” explained Tan Tian Chong, Director of Technology Development Division, BCA.

“Our Green Mark scheme, which incorporates best practices in environmental design and performance, usually has a lasting positive effect on the award recipients’ image and business,” Tan said.

Ng added that sustainable architecture is the only way to go forward in the 21st century on matters of urban development and construction to help save the planet from environmental degradation.
