KUALA LUMPUR: GuocoLand (Malaysia) Bhd (GLM) is taking steps to strengthen its foothold in the property industry. Its managing director Paul Poh tells theedgeproperty.com that they are in the midst of transforming GLM into a stronger property player with more drive and dynamism.

Towards this end, it has appointed K C Chong as the group sales & marketing director effective Sept 1, 2009. This is a new position in the group.

“This appointment is a positive step in strengthening our efforts to continuously improve our capabilities. We are also confident that the depth of experience added to our management team will translate into more value for our customers,” Poh said.

Chong was formerly marketing & sales director at E&O Property Development Bhd since September 2005. Prior to that, he was marketing & sales director with Tan & Tan Development Bhd and senior general manager of marketing and sales with IGB Corp Bhd.

Chong has over 25 years of experience in construction, marketing and property development and holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from Coventry University in the UK and an MSc in Marketing from the University of Manchester Science and Technology, also in the UK.

GLM’s major projects in Malaysia include the Oval in the KLCC area, Emerald in Rawang, Selangor, and an upcoming mixed development called Damansara City in Damansara Heights in Kuala Lumpur. Its investment portfolio, through Tower REIT (real estate investment trust), includes Menara HLA, HP Towers, and Menara ING in Kuala Lumpur. GLM also owns two hotels managed by Thistle – Thistle Port Dickson Resort in Negri Sembilan and Thistle Johor Baru.
