TOKYO: Global commercial real estate firm Jones Lang LaSalle is donating ¥100 million (RM3.7 million) to the Japanese Red Cross to provide aid and relief to Japan following the earthquake and Pacific Tsunami that have left massive destruction to the country.

The Red Cross is a charitable organisation that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission.

Bernama reported that Jones Lang LaSalle CEO Colin Dyer saying that the donation is meant as an earnest statement of concern for and support of the people of Japan including 600 of its employees and thousands of its clients in the country of the rising sun.

"We're providing this donation to the Red Cross as the most effective means of delivering immediate aid to those people and areas in greatest need. We encourage other organisations to join us and pledge their support to the Japanese relief efforts," he was reported saying.

Jones Lang LaSalle operates offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo and Fukuoka.

Jones Lang LaSalle managing director for Japan Yoichiro Hamaoka said that the series of natural disasters and the nuclear disasters have left Japan facing mounting risks with needs for substantial and ongoing humanitarian assistance for the families affected.

Japan's LaSalle Investment Management CEO Yasuo Nakashima said that the deed is the company social responsibility to the community and is an important cultural value for its global company as well as contributing to the recovery of Japan.

Jones Lang LaSalle is a financial and professional services firm specialising in real estate, serving clients in 60 countries from more than 1,000 locations worldwide, including 180 corporate offices.
