KULIM: The Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda) will build 1,001 housing units worth almost RM4 million under the state's Housing Assistance Programme, expected to begin in two months.

Keda general manager Arpan Shari said the project includes 28 additional units in two Keda areas in Kulim, namely Desa Keda Nagalilit, Padang Serai and Desa Keda Dingin, Karangan, near here.

“We should be able to start the construction by October at the latest and the houses can be occupied by next year," he told Bernama after launching the "Bicara Ilmu" event at the Ataufiq Air Merah Mosque, here last night.

Kedah Fatwa Council members Datuk Fadzil Awang and Sheikh Azizan Khalid were panel members at the event.

Arpan said the RM33,000 three-bedroom homes were allocated to the rural poor who lived in dilapidated houses.

He said besides helping to improve the economy, infrastructure and the life of rural residents in Kedah, Keda also carried out programmes to improve human capital through the Bicara Ilmu programme in selected mosques and surau statewide.

“The programme emphasises on spiritual building with positive values and fosters relationships and cooperation among rural residents,” he said. -- Bernama
