KUALA LUMPUR: The Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia (REHDA) Kedah/Perlis branch will seek a meeting with Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak after the first week of January 2010 to discuss the indefinite suspension of Kedah’s land swapping policy, says a Rehda branch spokeperson.
A state REDHA meeting was held on Dec 22, 2009 where feedback was gathered from its members on the impact and repercussions caused by the suspension of the state's land swapping policy.
The spokeperson declined to comment on the outcome of the REHDA meeting and the agenda of the proposed meeting with Menteri Besar but said members want to seek clarifications over the issue.
The announcement of the deferment of a new housing policy to implement a 50% Bumiputra quota in new housing schemes was made on Dec 7.Under the policy, developers are able to develop Malay reserve land and sell 70% of the units to non-Bumiputeras. In return, developers are required to acquire a bigger tract of non Malay Reserve land (5% more than the Malay Reserve land to be developed) in any part of the state. The acquired land will then be classified as Malay Reserve land. The new housing policy will also reduce the sale of the units to non-Bumiputera to 50% from the earlier 70%.
