KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): The Mines Wellness Hotel in Seri Kembangan won the Asean Green Hotel Recognition Award 2012 in Manado, Indonesia for the second year in a row. The award recognises hotels with environmentally-friendly and energy conservation measures in its operations. The Asean Green Hotel Standard is valid through the years of 2012 to 2014.

"Environmental consciousness is not just a management decision which we need to practice, but a way of life for us at the Mines Wellness Hotel," said general manager Eusebius Samm. "The hotel's policies not only assist to keep our operations green, but to propagate the green message; every employee is tasked to spread the word on green."

The hotel started their green practices since 2008, and some of the initiatives include rainwater harvesting, recycle cooking oil and having the air-conditioning units set at 24ºC.

Additionally, the hotel also won the Best Landscape under the hotel/resort/tourist complex category for the year 2011 by Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ). The hotel has herbs such as Misai Kucing, Pandan leaves, lemon grass and Galangal. There is also a 2,000 sq ft organic garden which the plants are used in the hotel's restaurants — namely, Abdul & Charlie's and Cheng Ho Court.
