SANDAKAN: Two hundred and eighteen families in Sungai Batang, here, who do not own any land and are living on government land reserve will have their own home following the opening up of a new settlement in the area.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said works to prepare the site for the new settlement, to be known as Kampung Sungai Batang Baru, were being carried out and would be completed within the next four months.
"Upon completion, allocation of the land would be made according to lots to the 218 families who have been identified to stay in the new settlement that would have basic amenities," he said.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the new settlement site on June 8, Musa said the new settlement would be equipped with basic amenities such as roads, water and electricity supply, a mosque, hall, clinic and playing field.
He said the new settlement located near the Education Hub area would provide job opportunities to the residents. -- BernamaTOP PICKS BY EDGEPROP
