Pahang govt urged to rebuild Kampung Baru Cina Ketari

BENTONG (Feb 23): Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung has urged the Pahang government to rebuild Kampung Baru Cina Ketari that was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday.

"Money to rebuild houses of fire victims is limited. The ministry only has allocation for construction of ditches, drains, roads and basic facilities," he told reporters after visiting the new village, here on Thursday.

The fire at 3.55pm on Wednesday destroyed 25 wooden houses leaving 120 people from 26 families in Kampung Baru Cina Ketari homeless.

Chor said the fire victims will be given aid to reduce their burden and urged them to remain patient.

He was accompanied by Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, the MP for Bentong.

Bentong district police chief Supt Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the area is a prohibited area and the public is forbidden from approaching it.

"The fire and police departments are still investigating the cause of the fire," he added. — Bernama
