PETALING JAYA: Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) has called for a briefing on the findings of investigations into the collapse of the roof of Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin in Terengganu.

PAM president Ar Boon Che Wee in a statement recently welcomed the state’s decision to declassify the report but said the Investigations Committee needs to brief industry stakeholders and the media as soon as possible before statements that may not correctly interpret the findings are made.

Engineering flaws, shoddy workmanship, inferior materials and lack of expertise in the key project management team were found to be the main contributing factors behind the collapse of the stadium’s roof.

Several other factors were also outlined in the 60-page report by an investigation committee led by the Public Works Department to determine the cause of the roof collapse at the RM292 million stadium on June 2 last year.

“We have requested for a copy of the report from the Terengganu Menteri Besar’s office to understand the facts and the parties involved in the incident with certainty, instead of relying on press reports before making further comments,” Boon said.

The committee completed its task in December and the document was declassified by the state government during a state exco meeting on March 10.
