KUALA LUMPUR: The haven/The Edge My Dream Home Awards 2011 has chosen nine winning homes this year, the highest number since the awards began in 2007.
The contest is held in association with Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) and Institut Perekabentuk Dalaman Malaysia (IPDM). It is open to homeowners from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and divided into condominium, terraced, detached/semi-detached and green home categories.

Architect Dr Tan Loke Mun’s home in Section 11, Petaling Jaya, was the Gold Award winner in the detached/semi-detached and Green Home categories. Ting Choong Sing, owner of the Ting Residence in Country Heights Damansara, also received a Gold Award in the detached/semi-detached category. Ting also received a Silver in the Green Home category in which Raymond Wong’s home in Gita Bayu, Seri Kembangan, winning a Silver as well. Leong Syn Ti’s retro home in SS3, Petaling Jaya earned an honorary mention.
An honorary mention was also awarded to Raven Sockanathan’s home in Ukay Heights, Ampang, in the detached/semi-detached category.

In the terraced category, the Gold winner was fashion designer Rizalman Ibrahim for his stylish home in Bukit Setiawangsa while the Silver Award went to Mohd Sofi Mohd Mustafa Azmi’s Pinggiran Ukay house. Ben Yap’s home in Sunway Damansara received an honorary mention.

Ong Tien Ling and Goh Han Shin’s home in Mont’Kiara Banyan in Mont’Kiara was the Gold winner in the condominium category.
The winners received their prizes from guest of honour Datuk Teo Chiang Kok, director of Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn Bhd, at a ceremony at 1 Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing) last Saturday.

“When I look at the photographs of the winning entries, two things impress me. One is how beautiful these homes are and this is a testimony to the good taste and creativity of the homeowners, their architects and interior designers,” said The Edge editor-in-chief Dorothy Teoh in her speech.

Prizes include stays at Philea Resort Melaka, vouchers from Art Village and IKEA, and flowers from Amtrol. The sponsor for the event was Jotun while 1 Utama was the venue sponsor.
The judges were PAM president Boon Che Wee; IPDM president Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Fadzir, fashion designer Datuk Tom Abang Saufi; The Edge Communications deputy managing director Lim Shiew Yuin and deputy editor of haven and City&Country, the property pullout of The Edge, Sharon Kam.

The winning homes will be featured in the August/September 2011 issue of haven, the bi-monthly interior design and garden magazine published by The Edge. haven can also be accessed via www.theedgeproperty.com in the next few days.
