KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Bhd is keen on expanding its landbank locally and abroad as the target to achieve one million hectares of land is still there, its President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zubir Murshid said.

"The desire is there to look at additional green fields although we have a landbank size of 600,000ha. That does not stop us from leveraging in any other opportunities," he said during a press conference to announce the company's first half-year financial results here, on Feb 25. About 530,000ha of Sime Darby's land are currently planted.

It was reported last year that Sime Darby had invested US$800 million (RM2.72 billion) to develop 200,000ha of oil palm and rubber in Liberia. They started with 10,000ha. This will be a spring board for further developments in Africa, the report had said. -- Bernama
