KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has been selected as the inaugural recipient of Frost & Sullivan's 2010 Malaysia Green Builder of the Year Award for its best practices in the industry.

The award, introduced eight years ago at global level, looks into several categories, including commending the diligence, commitment and innovative business strategies required to advance in the global marketplace, Sime Darby said in a statement on June 7.

Managing director Datuk Tunku Putra Badlishah said the company was honoured to be the first recipient of the award as it validated its continuous efforts in pursuing the sustainability agenda.

Sime Darby received the award based on how it has innovatively and effectively implemented building construction methodologies and integrated its projects with existing surroundings and infrastructure.

The company was also recognised on how it has promoted community and environment sustainability in the design of building construction projects, including adoption of green concepts and environmental practices.

Sime Darby uses rainwater harvesting systems, formaldehyde-free finishes, recycled materials and all-natural products in the homes and its Idea House is set to become the first carbon-neutral dwelling in Southeast Asia. -- Bernama
