KUALA LUMPUR: Sooka Sentral (pictured), a lifestyle retail centre offering unique health, beauty and dining experiences located in Kuala Lumpur Sentral has emerged the runner-up in the Purpose-Built Category at the recent FIABCI (International Real Estate Federation) Prix d'Excellence Awards 2010 in Bali.

Developed by MRCB Land (the property division of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd), Sooka Sentral was conceptualised and built specifically to meet the lifestyle needs of the Kuala Lumpur Sentral community, which has grown to 150,000 in the last 10 years.

These include commuters who make use of the world-class public transport hub, Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur; individuals working within the corporate towers and those living at the exclusive condominiums within Kuala Lumpur Sentral.

According to a statement by MRCB, Sooka Sentral had in November last year won the FIABCI Malaysia Property Awards for Best Development in the Purpose-Built Category.

The FIABCI Prix d'Excellence Awards, on the other hand, is the annual accolade of awards bestowed to the world's best properties.

MRCB's Senior Vice-President of the Property Division, Wong Dor Loke received the award during the awards ceremony held at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, on behalf of MRCB Land. Wong attributed the win to MRCB Land’s continuous efforts in striving to go beyond expectations.

He said: "We are honoured to be here amongst the who's who of the world's property and real estate industry and are ecstatic to have won. Just being here is testament that Malaysia's property development industry is indeed maturing and that we are now able to compete on the global stage."

“In line with the concept of ‘Live, Work, Play’ of the Kuala Lumpur Sentral master plan, Sooka Sentral introduces the ‘play’ component to primarily serve the population within the development as well as to offer lifestyle solutions for residents in neighbouring areas. It has been very well-received thus far and we look forward to its continuous growth and success," he concluded.

Sooka Sentral covers 180,000 sq ft and houses 32 tenants within its dynamic, oval-shaped bubble design. Tenants include a 25,000 sq ft designer gym with indoor rock climbing facilities, spas and beauty salons, bistros, fast food restaurants and al fresco dining outlets offering a variety of local and international cuisines.

The Kuala Lumpur Sentral development, projected to be completed by 2015, had also previously won FIABCI awards for the Malaysian and International Chapters. Among the projects were Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur and 1 Sentral Office Tower.
