SHAH ALAM: Yayasan Melaka has helped Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) Selangor to settle its quit rent arrears amounting to RM5.7 million to the Selangor government on Monday Feb 1 afternoon, YBK Selangor chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom said.

The payment was made online to the account of the state treasury by Yayasan Melaka at 3pm, he told Bernama when contacted here.

This morning, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had said in Kuala Selangor that it was already too late for Yayasan Melaka to come to the aid of YBK in settling the quit rent on its 526-hectare land which had arrears for eight years.

Zainal Abidin said the deadline for settlement of the arrears was Jan 30 but he hoped Abdul Khalid would accept the payment although it was late and not confiscate the YBK land in Serendah, Rawang.

On Saturday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam had said that Yayasan Melaka was prepared to settle the quit rent arrears on the YBK land. -- Bernama
