SHAH ALAM (Nov 7): Kota Kemuning residents are worried that a loved green lung near the township’s lake may end up being the site for yet another hypermarket.

According to a report by The Star, residents in the area have “caught wind of a hypermarket company planning to set up shop on an empty plot of land belonging to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA)” which is just next to the Kota Kemuning lake.

“Anything that is built here should mimic the original concept to enhance the lake’s value.

“We hope the authorities have planned an area that will reflect the serenity and beauty of the lake,” Kota Kemuning Residents’ Association (RA) president Allan Lee told the English daily.

The report also said that residents there were concerned about “the impact of building a wet hypermarket near the lake”, especially the potential pollution.

They explained that there is no need for a hypermarket there as there are already seven “within a 9km radius”.

Resident Allan Ang said they were also concerned about a hypermarket “marring the area’s image”.

He is also worried about worsening traffic if a hypermarket is constructed there.

“More importantly, there will be many lorries driving in and out of the area and this is potentially dangerous for those jogging around the area. We also have children at the park in the evenings,” Ang added.

The RA has already submitted an objection letter to Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad.

The daily publication also reported that Ahmad Zaharin said the Privatisation Committee has already approved the project “but the One-Stop Centre (OSC) had yet to convene on the matter”.

He added “the OSC would take into account residents’ and traders’ concerns before approving the project”.
