PETALING JAYA (September 13): Persiaran Anggerik Mokara road upgrading works are slated to begin in October, after a nine-month delay.

The mounting traffic congestion at Persiaran Anggerik Mokara in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, which causes massive congestion during peak hours necessitated the upgrades, which residents have been fighting for, over a number of years, reports The Star.

The traffic dispersal plan included a flyover from Persiaran Mokara into Persiaran Anggerik Malaxis which was initially part of the Kota Kemuning master plan but was not included in the draft plan.

The flyover had been promised to residents as part of the sales pitch for the upcoming development.

The work, which should have been completed in September of this year, was delayed due to underground cables from various utility companies that needed to be relocated first, which were discovered by Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

MBSA Engineering Department deputy director Hanif Basree Abdul Rahman was quoted by the daily as saying that the utility companies began removing the cables two months ago.

Contractors appointed to conduct the road-widening works were also waiting to begin their task as soon as possible.

“It is a running cost for us as well as we are paying them for the job. “We prefer to begin as soon as possible but were delayed due to the issue,” he added.

MBSA took time to negotiate with the utility companies, which also contributed to the delay.

The council will also pay for the relocation of the Syabas pipes there as well.

Package one of Phase 1 costs RM5mil, and involves the roads being expanded from two to three lanes, and the upgrade of slip roads at the roundabout, to provide a better alternative to using the Kota Kemuning roundabout.

Package two costs RM15mil, and will see the construction of an access road from Persiaran Anggerik Mokara to the Kesas Highway, to ease traffic congestion from Kota Kemuning to Kesas and the LKSA (Kemuning–Shah Alam Highway).

In total, Phase 1 of the project will cost MBSA RM20mil.
