KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 28): Abdul Yazid Kassim, a former project director of Malakoff Corp Bhd, will take over as the new chief executive officer of Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) on Feb 1.

In a statement announcing this today, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said Abdul Yazid has vast experience in the field of project management as well as construction and engineering contracts, with about 10 years of experience working overseas as construction chief at Qatar Petroleum.

Abdul Yazid, who was also formerly the head of project management at Zelan Bhd, is replacing Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, who stepped down at the end of last year on the conclusion of his contract.

MRT Corp had said in December last year that Shahril was not extending his contract as he wanted to pursue other career options.

Lim said among the main responsibilities of Abdul Yazid in his new post is the management of the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit (MRT2) project to ensure it can be implemented within the stipulated time frame and cost.

"His appointment as the new CEO is believed to be able to enhance the performance and efficiency of MRT Corp," the minister added. — theedgemarkets.com
