Axis REIT dismisses buyout talk

KUALA LUMPUR: Axis REIT Managers Bhd (ARMB), the manager of Axis Real Estate Investment Trust (Axis-REIT), has dismissed as “speculative” recent news reports that Axis-REIT and ARMB are potential acquisition targets by Sime Darby Bhd.

“We would like to clarify that as of today (yesterday), there has been no communication or discussion between any of the shareholders of ARMB and Sime Darby Bhd,” ARMB said in a statement yesterday.

The company went on to assure its unitholders and the investing public that it is “business as usual” at Axis-REIT.

“ARMB will continue to grow and manage the fund strategically as we are committed to ensuring that our unitholders’ expectations are met,” it added.

A recent report in a local daily quoting sources had said that Sime Darby was looking to acquire a REIT management company which it will use for the injection of its commercial properties.
