BAHAMAS: Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) is designing a 175,000 sq ft condominium called The Honeycomb in the Bahamas. It will be developed in a beach and golf resort community called Albany, on the south coast of New Providence Island.

“Our design is driven by an effort to maximise the enjoyment of the abundant natural qualities of Albany in The Bahamas, which are the landscape, the sea and the sun,” said BIG founding partner and architect, Bjarke Ingels.

The Honeycomb will be the tallest structure in Albany and will overlook the resort’s marina. There will be 34 units with built-ups between 3,000 sq ft and 8,000 sq ft. Each condo comes with a private outdoor pool and summer kitchen that is integrated into the structure’s hexagonal facade.

“A honeycomb facade functionally supports the pools making them sink into the terrace floor and provides spectacular sight lines while maintaining privacy for each residence,” Ingels said. “Drawing inspiration from its coastal setting, the hexagonal design evokes the natural geometries you find in certain coral formations or honeycombs.”

The residences in the building offer a variety of floor plans that will suit the diverse lifestyles of its tenants.

The Honeycomb’s residential lobby and high-end shops will activate the public plaza. It also comes with golf cart parking and storage units which are oriented towards the parking lot on the north, in close proximity to Albany’s championship golf course.

BIG was established in 2005 with architects, designers and builders from Copenhagen and New York. The group is known for its unique designs and its projects throughout Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. Its completed projects include the Denmark Pavilion, 8 House and Superkilen. Some of the group’s ongoing projects are the New Tamayo Museum in New Mexico, West 57 in New York and Cross # Towers in Seoul.
