KOTA KINABALU: A state assemblyman has suggested that property developers undertaking projects in her constituency set up a special fund to help people who become victims of natural disasters triggered by the construction at their sites.

Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid, the elected representative for Karambunai, said it was high time that property developers played their part in helping people affected by the impact of their projects.

The fund would enable property developers to practise corporate social responsibility (CSR) and could also ease overspending of the limited allocation for her constituency, she said.

Jainab, who is Sabah Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister, said construction projects were sprouting in her constituency and harmed the environment and took a toll on the people.

"When you talk about the 1Malaysia concept, ‘People First, Performance Now’, any development project should be carried out with the people in mind. People first. Not people later or people never,” she said. - Bernama
