KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Wednesday, June 22 urged Malay contractors to create their own opportunities to be involved in achieving government targets.

He said they should identify new areas and markets for themselves and be bold in diversifying their business.

"The government has drawn up various transformation programmes to turn Malaysia into a developed nation and to make it more competitive in the region and globally.

"The marketing potential and opportunity are there for contractors to seek their own opening for involvement in programmes planned by the government," Muhyiddin said at a dinner in conjunction with the 32nd annual general meeting of Malaysian Malay Contractors Association here.

"We should generate our own chance instead of waiting for the government. We should create our own opportunity with the capital that we have," he added.

Muhyiddin said that Malay contractors should "create value" in their field of enterprise with new approaches.

He said that they should prepare to compete in a changing field that was becoming ever more challenging and dynamic due to globalisation. — Bernama
