KOTA BHARU: Encouraged by current economic developments, Hotel Grv will invest more than RM5 million to undertake a major refurbishment exercise this year.

Marketing director Raja Rusmin Raja Mahmud said the investment was rather large for a hotel in Kelantan but the management was, nevertheless, optimistic of the returns on investments in the long-run with the anticipated increase in guests check-in.

"Hotel Grv is not compromising on guests' comfort, as such we see investments such as this as ongoing in order to keep up the hotel's reputation for quality service.

"The exercise will see the refurbishment of the hotel's ballroom, main cafe, Riviera Coffee House, Season Chinese Restaurant, lobby, Songket Lounge and upgrade of rooms with new beds and LCD televisions," he told Bernama in an interview here on Tuesday, June 27.

Raja Rusmin said the refurbishment, which was now moving at a feverish pace, was expected to be completed, at the latest, by mid-next year.

On another development, he said approximately 100,000 guests have patronised the hotel up to June and expected an increase of between 20% and 30% in guest arrivals this year.

He was optimistic the figure could be achieved given the aggressive promotions undertaken by the hotel which has invested some RM480,000 to market the hotel, among others, in the print and electronic media.

Hotel Grv, formerly known as Hotel Diamond Puteri, is located in Jalan Post Office Lama, and has been in business since 2006.

From a two-storey hotel with only 104 rooms, the hotel has expanded physically and now boosts of 299 rooms and 11 floors.

Apart from rooms, the hotel also offers other facilities such as 12 meeting and seminar rooms of various sizes.

Raja Rusmin said the Executive Suite costs RM1,388++ per night, Songket/Jacuzi Suite  costs RM798++), Sutera/Premier Suite costs RM698++, Batik/Deluxe Suite costs RM498++ and Premier/Deluxe Rooms cost RM498++ per night.

"Civil servants and those in the private sector enjoy special government and corporate rates," he added.

The hotel, often referred to as the "hotel by the river", is the only hotel in Kelantan which offers room accomodation and ecotourism facilities. — Bernama
