I-City PnP incubator aims to grow ICT industry

KUALA LUMPUR: Plug and PlayTech Centre Silicon Valley is considering investing in technopreneur companies under the i-City Plug and PlayTech Centre Incubator programme (i-City PnP Incubator).

The programme aims to nurture and grow local entrepreneurs in Information and Communication Technology.

Plug and PlayTech Centre.Com President, Saeed Amidi said local companies can form joint ventures with technology companies in the Silicon Valley of the US.

"In the first-half of 2010, between 10 and 15 companies have been identified to be nurtured," he told reporters on March 2 after the signing ceremony to facilitate the incubator programme between I-City, Selangor State Development Corp and Silicon Valley-based Plug and PlayTech Centre.

Also present was Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Saeed said the initial selection of companies would focus on the development of solutions for digital cities, mobile content, products and services for the property and construction-related sectors.

The Selangor state, through its agencies, would invest RM50 million under the initial phase of the i-City PnP Incubator programme.

The Plug and Play Tech Center has over 200 start-ups and works closely with one another to build great companies.

Plug and Play has strategic partnerships, providing mentorship and exchange of ideas with industry giants such as Sun, Yahoo, Microsoft, Nokia and Google. -- Bernama
