Mitsui Outlet Park to make Sepang debut in end-May

SEPANG (April 29): MFMA Development Sdn Bhd will open the doors to its Mitsui Outlet Park in Sepang, near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), to the public on May 30.

Encompassing some 24,000 sq m of commercial space and showcasing approximately 130 shops under the first phase, which will be completed by end-July, the factory-concept mall will offer luxury and branded products, covering fashion apparel and accessories. It will also host food and beverage outlets.

The Mitsui Outlet Park is expected to undergo a floor space expansion in 2018 and a final expansion in 2021 that will accommodate a total of 260 shops.

MFMA Development is a joint venture between Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd (Mitsui Fudosan), which owns 70% of business shares and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (Malaysia Airports), which holds the remaining shares.

The factory outlet concept mall is about a five-minute drive from KLIA and offers more than 2,000 parking bays, banking services, facilities for the disabled, baby-nursing and changing facilities, first aid services and strollers and wheelchairs for rent. There will also be free shuttle bus services to KLIA and klia2 that will run between 8.20am and 11.30pm, flight information displays, free baggage storage services, a flight specialists in transport communication (SITA) check-in kiosk system for selected airlines and ticket counters for buses, taxies and rental cars.

It targets the annual 48,930,000 travellers (recorded in 2014) who use the airports, and the 8.73 million residents who live within a 100km radius.

Mitsui Fudosan is one of Japan’s renowned real estate and retail property developers, which has developed and managed more than 10 outlet parks in Japan, one in Ningbo City, China, and another in Taiwan.

Mitsui Outlet Park will be Mitsui Fudosan's flagship for the Southeast Asian outlet market and is an initiative of the KLIA Aeropolis spearheaded by Malaysia Airports in an effort to develop KLIA Sepang as an airport city. Sitting on a 6,750 acre site, future plans are to include a golf course, a hotel, a distribution centre and an entertainment park.
