KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 14): Property developer MK Land Holdings Bhd is prepared to cooperate with the government to build houses under the 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) programme to help low-income earners own houses.

Chairman Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar said MK Land was willing to support the effort in tandem with the government's initiative to build more affordable and low-cost houses for the people in the low-income bracket.

He said a meeting would be held with the Prime Minister's Department on Friday on PR1MA projects to be implemented.

"Logically, not many developers are keen to build affordable houses due to the low profit margin.

"Nevertheless, MK Land has done its part to help the government build affordable homes. My company will not reject if there are requests from state governments to undertake such projects," he told reporters at the handing of keys to housebuyers of Block D, Metropolitan Square here on Friday.

Currently, MK Land is developing a housing project in Meru, Perak, where about 1,500 units are affordable homes.

The estimated RM300 million project is expected to be completed in five years.

Since inception, MK Land has invested RM1.8 billion to build affordable and low-cost houses. The company has a 5,000ha landbank that has not been developed yet. — Bernama
