BUTTERWORTH: The Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) will build 4,750 houses for those in the low and middle income groups in the state under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Chairman Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said the houses comprised 739 low-cost units, medium low cost (771) and medium cost (3,240).

"What we are doing is proof of commitment by the federal government through Perda to help and ensure that the people of Penang are able to own houses by building affordable homes for them," he told Bernama here on Wednesday, Jan 12.

Azhar said since it was set up in 1983, Perda had built 9,338 houses in the state of various categories.

Besides that, he said, Perda also built 42 units of houses for the hardcore poor in Seberang Perai Utara and 60 units in Seberang Perai Selatan. — Bernama
