KUALA LUMPUR: techpark@enstek, a 209.6ha technological hub development in Bandar Enstek, Sepang, on June 7 received the HALMAS certification, which is a special status reserved for halal parks.

The certification, presented by Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan, is an accreditation given to a halal park, which has complied with the requirements under the guidelines of the Halal Industry Development Corp (HDC).

TH Properties Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer Zaharuddin Saidon said the HALMAS certification was another significant milestone in the development of techpark@enstek, which has differentiated itself through focusing on life sciences and the biotechnology industry.

"This award ensures that the products produced in techpark@enstek are of the highest quality, integrity and safe for consumption," he said at the HALMAS launching ceremony here on June 7.

"We are very honoured to be one of the first companies in Malaysia that have the HALMAS status, and the first technology park to receive the HALMAS status, which enables companies operating at the park to be eligible for incentives provided by HDC."

Zaharuddin said to date, techpark@enstek had attracted RM2.5 billion worth of investments from government bodies and private organisations.

Among the projects are Felda Biotech Centre, Jakim Halal Accreditation Institute, and the latest is a state-of-the-art bottling plant by Coca Cola Bottlers (M) Sdn Bhd.

HDC chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin said development of the halal parks was in line with the holistic approach to create a "halal eco-system" in Malaysia.

"I am certain techpark@enstek is in a position to attract further investments which can contribute towards the desired growth of the national halal industry and ultimately the country's economy," he said.

Total development of Bandar Enstek is expected to be completed in 2025 with a gross development value estimated at almost RM9.2 billion. -- Bernama
