KUALA TERENGGANU (Dec 7): The Special Area plan or "Rancangan Kawasan Khas-RKK" for 2008 to 2015 has identified 29 main projects for the Tepoh-Batu Enam area, the Terengganu State Assembly was told on Wednesday.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said the projects, comprising 19 in the Batu Enam area and 10 in Tepoh, included road upgrading and construction of learning institutions.

"The road projects include the road stretch from Kampung Durian Burung through the Manir bridge and Buluh Gading bridge to the Batu Enam roundabout which will be widened to four lanes.

"The round-a-bout will be replaced with a traffic-light junction or a fly-over," he said in response to a question by Mohd Ramli Nuh (BN-Tepoh) on the status of the Tepoh-Batu Enam RKK projects.

Ahmad said the Drainage and Irrigation Department also proposed the construction of a channel and two retention ponds at Paya Tok Jiring to address the flood problems in the area.

The project is expected to cost more than RM300 million, he added. — Bernama
