PETALING JAYA: Property developer Tropicana Corp Bhd has appointed Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa (pic) as its new chairman effective April 25, replacing Datuk Rohana Mahmood, the previous independent non-executive chairman of Tropicana.

Tropicana founder and executive vice-chairman Tan Sri Danny Tan said he is pleased to have Rastam on board as he will further contribute to the group’s growth.

Rastam spent over 36 years as a diplomat in the service of the Malaysian government, starting as an officer attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April 1974. In 2006, he was appointed secretary-general.

He had served in various capacities in the Ministry and Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad until his retirement in 2010.

Currently, Rastam is serving as chief executive of Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, the country’s premier think tank.

On a separate note, Tropicana said it achieved record high new sales of RM2.17 billion in 2013. The group also recorded group revenue of RM1.48 billion and profit before tax of RM503.6 million for the full financial year ended Dec 31 2013.

To date, Tropicana owns close to 809.37ha of landbank in the country, with an estimated gross development value of over RM70 billion. — by Adela Megan Willy
