KUALA LUMPUR: Seventeen houses in Kampung Malaysia Tambahan in Sungai Besi and three others in Salak Selatan were damaged during a storm, which hit the city on April 11.

Two blocks of People's Housing Project (PPR) flats in Pantai Dalam also had their roof ripped off by the strong wind.

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, who visited the affected flats at PPR Seri Pantai and PPR Kampung Limau on April 12, said contractors had been appointed to repair the two flats.

"Insya-Allah [God willing], within two weeks, the work will be completed.

"At the moment, we will put canvasses to prevent rainwater from entering the affected units," he told reporters.

He said nine vehicles parked at the PPR area were also damaged by falling roof and trees.

Raja Nong Chik said owners of the damaged vehicles could make claims from insurance companies appointed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) after lodging police reports.

The minister later visited the victims in Kampung Malaysia Tambahan. -- Bernama
