JAKARTA: Two people were killed and scores feared buried under the rubble when an extension building to a shopping mall in Tanah Abang collapsed Dec 23.
The Malaysian embassy here was closely monitoring search and rescue work at Tanah Abang, a popular shopping area for Malaysians visiting the Indonesian capital.
As of noon, the embassy had yet to receive information on whether Malaysians were involved in the incident at 10am.
Hundreds of Malaysian tourists and traders packed the many textile shops in Tanah Abang on weekends.
A Bernama visit to the incident site found that several victims buried under the rubble had been rescued.
Scores of rescue workers assisted by members of the public were working non-stop to rescue the others trapped. Many used hacksaws to hack through the concrete.
Several construction workers met said the extension building which collapsed was meant for public toilets.
No official report on the incident had been made. - Bernama
