IPOH: The Perak government has agreed to make Wenzhou in China its friendship city to enhance bilateral relations between the two towns, especially in trade, tourism and culture.

State executive councillor Datuk Hamidah Osman said a memorandum of understanding would be signed between Ipoh and Wenzhou for the purpose, adding that Wenzhou would be the second friendship city for Ipoh, after Medan.

Towards this end, a trade exposition, involving 300 Wenzhou manufacturers would be held at the Indera Mulia Stadium from June 24 to 27, she told reporters here Monday, April 5

In another development, Hamidah announced the appointment of Zameema Mohammad Ariff, 40, as the chief executive officer of Perak Tourism Berhad, previously known as Tourism Perak Sdn Bhd.

She also said that the Sabah Tourism Board and Perak Tourism had agreed to have an exchange programme involving officers to further boost the state tourism industry.

"The officers' exchange programme will involve a one-year stint," she added.-- Bernama
