“Globally, we have been in 40 years of inflationary environment, and it will remain inflationary for a while.
“Twenty years ago, when you launch a property, it was easily sold within a few weeks.
“Through the programme, the government’s aim should be to help the industries and the nation’s economy recover, so companies can offer more jobs to more workers and be profitable to pay taxes.
President Datuk Chua Soon Ping complimented the state government in listening to Shareda’s recommendation to set the fixed deposit amount to RM200,000 as opposed to RM1.
In a report unveiled at the roundtable, Rehda Institute highlighted compliance costs as a major challenge in the industry, with continued hikes leading to higher prices and hence, reduces affordability, project feasibility, profits, and future supply.
“We strongly support the calls made by other professional bodies to maintain the foreign worker management system under the Ministry of Human Resources as it will not only minimise bureaucratic red tape but also streamline the process within one ministry.

“Among the current hard-pressed issues are the building materials price hike and the shortage of foreign workers; both with lasting effects on the industry the longer they go on.
“We asked Rehda why many developers were not building affordable housing to meet demand and were informed that there were many factors beyond their control, such as the rising cost of building materials,” Selangor housing, urban wellbeing and entrepreneur development committee chairman Rodziah Ismail.
