With i-Miliki, an initiative under Putrajaya’s Home Ownership Programme 2022/2023 or HOPE, first-time purchasers of homes priced RM500,000 and below will be fully exempted from paying the stamp duties on the Memorandum of Transfer (MOT) and loan agreement, while first-time purchasers of residential units priced above RM500,000 up to RM1 million will receive 75% remittance on the two stamp duties.

“We should not ‘brand’ affordable housing as an effort that only the government can provide,” said Suraya Ismail, Director of Research in Khazanah Research Institute.

The association explained that this would “eliminate the current practice of cross-subsidies that raise the costs of regularly priced housing, making it more expensive for the M40 rakyat to afford homes”.

Four-day study tour, which focused on Singapore’s best practices in the industry, was attended by 46 delegates from various sectors.

“The government’s intent to review the requirements as well as facilitate and expedite the processing of MM2H applications via a one-stop centre is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Datuk NK Tong, president of Rehda.

"This partnership will enhance awareness and knowledge of affordable housing, which is crucial at times like this.

"Passing such housing delivery responsibilities to developers with burdensome imposition of the numerous compliance costs adds to cost of house prices, but not necessarily adding value to the final product.

“We reiterate that should the issue be left idle for too long it will have an adverse impact on house prices in the open market.
